Miko Marks: Not one to rest on her laurels
- February 14, 2007 - Nashville, TN - After capping off 2006 in a big way, multi-award winner, Miko Marks has been a busy rising star.
At the end of the year, Indie World named Miko the "Female Vocalist of the Year", putting the young artist in the company of names like Dolly Parton, Doug Stone and other stars.
A red carpet event at the historic Avalon Theater in Los Angeles marked Miko's win as "Best New Country Artist for 2006" from New Music Weekly Magazine. The annual awards honor the best in independent music in all genres.
On December 5th, Miko's debut album, "Freeway Bound" was named "Country Album of the Year" in the Independent Music Awards. The IMA's are judged by a panel of industry professionals, this year including Wynonna and Patty Loveless. Miko received a mention in the February 12, 2007 issue of fan magazine, Country Weekly, for that win.
Miko attended the annual worldwide music conference, MIDEM, in France in January. Along with Mirrome Records President, Rod Carter, Miko is interested in making deals for international licensing and distribution. Each January, the global music industry's key players meet in Cannes, France to make deals, network, discuss the industry, and check out hot new talent. MIDEM attracts nearly 10,000 delegates from almost 100 countries, from the recording, publishing, live, sync, digital and mobile sectors with a trade show, conferences, cutting-edge concerts and events, and numerous business services.
This month, Miko is off to the NACA convention (National Association for Campus Activities) to meet with buyers of college entertainment. She then heads to Longwood University in Farmville, VA for an acoustic show. She's even found time for some modeling! Varna Jewelry, which provided gems for Miko's appearance at the NMW Awards, tapped the Country beauty to appear in advertising for its' line of fine and custom jewelry. A photo shoot in Los Angeles will result in ads to appear in Noir Bridal Magazine.
Miko will appear at the Country Radio Broadcasters seminar, CRS38, in Nashville, February 28- March 2, performing several showcases for industry representatives and attendees. In May, she'll appear in Hammond, LA with Mirrome Records label-mate, Chris Gray.
