Country Artist Nabs Three Recent Honors
- December 11, 2006 - Nashville, TN -Mirrome Records recording artist, Miko Marks, is a three-time winner. The country singer/songwriter is getting attention not only for the gutsy voice and intimate lyrics on her debut album, but for the growing list of honors coming her way.
Indie World named Miko the "Female Vocalist of the Year", putting the young artist in the company of names like Dolly Parton, Doug Stone and other stars. (See www.indieworldcountry.com)
A red carpet event at the historic Avalon Theater in Los Angeles marked Miko's win as "Best New Country Artist for 2006" from New Music Weekly Magazine. The annual awards honor the best in independent music in all genres. (www.newmusicweekly.com)
On December 5th, Miko's debut album, "Freeway Bound" was named "Country Album of the Year" in the Independent Music Awards. The IMA's are judged by a panel of industry performers and professionals. (www.independentmusicawards.com)
Miko was signed to indie label Mirrome during the 2005 CMA MusicFest (formerly known as "Fan Fair") in Nashville. She has toured extensively since the release of "Freeway Bound" and watched 3 singles climb the indie charts. Her latest release, "Mama", includes a video starring Miko's friend, R & B singer, Erykah Badu in the role of Mama. Miko is the first African American woman to make such powerful inroads in Country music.
A sophomore album is in the works under the direction of Grammy-award-wining producer, Ron Cornelius in Nashville.
