"Freeway Bound" on the Rodeo Circuit
- March 09, 2006 - Nashville, TN - The new year is off to a roaring start for Mirrome Records recording artist, Miko Marks, who will be in Memphis March 24-25 as a featured entertainer with the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, named for legendary black rodeo star William "Bill" Pickett. Miko was invited back for the 2006 season after her successful debut with the rodeo in 2005. The event will be staged at the Shelby ShowPlace Arena (Agricenter) in Memphis.
The artist was featured in the February 2006 issue of Ebony Magazine and the Feb. 23 issue of the Tennessee Tribune. She has been busy with a full slate of appearances and interviews. Marks is destined to be the first African American woman to be honored by the CMA for her work as a country singer/songwriter.
On January 16th, Miko performed the title track from her debut album, "Freeway Bound" for thousands of attendees at a landmark celebration in Denver, Colorado. In conjunction with the Martin Luther King holiday and the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement, and for the first time in history, the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) held a Black Rodeo at the Denver Coliseum. Marks was equally well-received when she performed at a reception for cowboys and sponsors. The 1st Annual MLK, Jr. African American Heritage Rodeo of Champions featured African American cowboys and cowgirls, all champions who have qualified for the finals of the NFR, IFR, PBR and BPNFR.
Miko Marks grew up in Flint, Michigan and was educated at Grambling State University in Louisiana. She now resides in California. Of the 10 album cuts, the singer/songwriter penned 7 songs. Miko's songs are intimate and honest and all-out country. Miko's latest release is the single "Kickin' Back".
